About this page
Fan created web pages have played an important role in the growth and popularity of Pokémon throughout the years, and the creators of those tributes bring a personal touch to their projects, making each of them unique and special. In the late 90s and early 2000s, during the height of Pokémon’s popularity (Pokémania), there were thousands of them. As hosting providers shut down, domains lapsed, and those creators moved on with their lives, the number of fanpages dwindled, and the popularity of social media accelerated the death of the Pokémon fan page.
Thankfully this wasn’t the case for some of the larger websites such as Serebii and Bulbagarden, and several other smaller websites continued to live on. In fact, there has been something of a resurgence in recent years, thanks to the Neocities platform, where people are finding the joy in creating their own personal space, away from the centralisation of social media, along with the uniqueness that many older Pokémon fans experienced back then.
Johto Times celebrates and wishes to promote the diverse, talented and passionate fans who pay tribute to the Pokémon series in all sorts of ways, and so we have created a directory of fansites for people to check out. This directory also includes websites which offer useful information and services for Pokémon fans which may be of interest. This is a living document, and we will continue to update it over time. Websites that close will be listed as such, and we will do our best to provide an archived link from the Wayback Machine, rather than remove links.
We only promote traditional Pokémon fansites and projects which provide useful information. We do not include content creators on social media and streaming platforms. Please note that we do not control what these websites publish, so discretion is advised. We may remove links at our discretion.
